Nano Banana 2 vs Banana Pro: Speed, Quality & Price Compared

If you've been following the AI image generation space, you've probably heard the buzz around Google's latest models. We put Nano Banana 2 (NB2) head-to-head with Banana Pro to find out which one deserves a spot in your creative workflow — and which one should be your go-to for fast iterations.

The Models

Benchmark: Side-by-Side Comparison

| Feature | Banana Pro | Nano Banana 2 (NB2) |

|---|---|---|

| Quality | Best (reference) | ~95% of Pro |

| Speed | 10–20 sec | 4–6 sec (3–5x faster) |

| Price (2K) | $0.134 | $0.101 (−25%) |

| Price (4K) | $0.240 | $0.151 (−37%) |

| Identity consistency | Superior for complex scenes | Slightly lower |

| Text on images | 94% accuracy | 92% accuracy |

The numbers don't lie — NB2 is significantly cheaper and faster, while maintaining remarkably close quality to Pro.

Real Results

We tested both models with the same identity-locked character and a detailed film photography prompt. Here are the raw, unedited outputs.

Nano Banana 2 (Flash)

Nano Banana 2 AI portrait — film photography style with visible grain and natural skin texture

Generated with NB2 in ~5 seconds. Natural lighting, film grain, realistic skin texture — all present.

Banana Pro

Banana Pro AI portrait — 35mm film photography with Kodak Portra tones

Banana Pro, ~15 seconds. Sharper details, slightly better identity lock, beautiful Kodak Portra rendering.

The difference? You have to zoom in to see it. Pro nails the micro-details — individual pore textures, piercing reflections, eyeliner edges — but NB2 is surprisingly close for a model that's 3–5x faster.

When Prompts Go Wrong

Of course, not every generation is perfect. Here's what happens when your negative prompt tokens accidentally end up inside the image:

AI generation fail — negative prompt text rendered inside the image

Banana Pro decided to artistically integrate the negative prompt. "SMOOTH SKIN PLASTIC AIRBRUSHED" — well, at least it followed instructions... literally. 😂

> Pro tip: if you see your negative prompt baked into the image, your prompt structure might need some work. Or just roll with it — it's kind of a vibe.

Our Verdict

For identity-locked photo generation (our core use case at Musebox), Banana Pro still wins. The extra seconds and cents are worth it when every detail matters — piercings, tattoos, facial structure consistency across multiple generations.

But NB2 is the perfect Flash option:

We're rolling out NB2 as the new Flash tier on Musebox — faster generations, lower cost, same creative freedom.
